GIGANTIC, A BIG BIG LOVE.

Observe, the Pixies Minotaur Limited Edition box set* in its natural habitat. Shhh. No sudden movements. It might see you. It’s sheer size alone could crush you in one fell swoop. Minotaur doesn’t like to play nice. Come, observe from afar and see its 5 full-length studio albums on LP an CD, posters, signed large format project art book, it’s smaller project art sibling book, it’s live DVD/Blu-Ray never before released 1991 performance and it’s music videos live in its native environment.

Be cautious, be quiet, then tame the beast and take it home with you.

(*Jake not included.)

AN INSTORE WITH THE CRIBS SUN NOV 8th

Unless you’re wintering in Belgium or holding tickets to upcoming Letterman tapings, chances to see the THE CRIBS in person anytime soon are minimal to nil. If this is not sitting well, and it shouldn’t be, simply walk through the door of Jackpot Records on Sunday, November 8th at 2PM.

The Cribs, will be rocking an absolutely free, all ages instore at our downtown location. Topping their previous honor of selecting Jackpot Records as one of three places IN THE WORLD to sell the deluxe Roses Edition (they’ve really taken to their new Portland homes) of their latest album “Ignore The Ignorant”, they’ve picked us as the launch pad for their upcoming tour. After this they’re off to a Letterman taping, a few coast dates and then the world. In all practicality, this is it for seeing them this year.

Come early to find a spot and brace yourself. We predict a swift transition from SRO to SOL. If you’re unfamiliar with a Cribs gig, it’s not exactly an evening with The Chordettes. See you there!

The deets:

Sunday, November 8th // 2 pm // DOWNTOWN: 203 SW 9th. Ave // FREE! // All Ages

RISIN’ UP, STRAIGHT TO THE TOP.

Big thanks to the oh-so-nice boys of Pelican for making it out to our Hawthorne location yesterday to shower our ears with an hour-long, all vinyl DJ set. Echoing our sentiments exactly, one of our regulars asked, “A metal band doing a DJ set? What will they even play?!” Well, we soon discovered that though these dudes may regularly crank it all heavy-like through their amps, their musical prowess extends far beyond their own genre. Their set ranged from Phil Ochs to Black Flag to Stevie Wonder to Motley Crue, and included choice cuts like “Eye of the Tiger.”

In short, AWESOME.

Laurent of Pelican pulls some vinyl for his set.

Trevor of Pelican.

Trevor of Pelican checks out...Emerson, Lake and Palmer?!

In the event you thought these guys were too serious for fun, be it told that they are NOT. Laurent busted out the robot on more than one occasion, and Trevor kept the energy high by dancing around the store as he dug through the racks.

Laurent on decks.

Trevor takes his turn.

Trevor takes his turn.

No matter what was playing, it was LOUD. Just the way we like it.

Kerby enjoys the sonic joy from behind the counter.

Thanks for spicing up a rainy Sunday, dudes.

ALBUM OF THE MONTH

No mattter how loud your objections, autumn is here. How better to deny that another summer has gotten away than by listening to the Cali-kissed anthems of San Francisco’s “Girls”? We’ve been eagerly awaiting this one ever since their single “Morning Light” dropped over a year ago (and in the spirit of the delicious summer snack that is Lay’s potato chips, we betcha you can’t watch this video just once).

These boys sure know how to tease.
