Nigga Please is the second studio album by American hip hop artist and member of the Wu-Tang Clan Ol' Dirty Bastard, released on September 14, 1999.
During the period between the release of his first album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, and this one, Ol' Dirty Bastard's erratic behavior (including crashing the Grammy Awards of 1998 and multiple legal altercations) had earned him a reputation as a wild and eccentric member of the Wu-Tang Clan.
His vocal style was garbled and often arrhythmic and his lyrics tended to be free form, at times focusing obscurely on themes associated with the Five Percent Nation; in spite of this, Nigga Please was a critical and commercial success. The album is considered to be a masterpiece by ODB's diehard supporters. Thematically, Nigga Please is an album which simultaneously embraces and is critical of the need to produce a feeling of self-worth through material outcomes. While he touts his money, power, and sexual prowess throughout the album, the lyrics and tone suggest a concern that these are the only things others value about him and express derision towards that entire concept. Thus, despite the obscurity of some of the topics on the album, the overall feel makes it accessible to most listeners, and his best work in this regard. Dirty's lyrical observations are about being at odds with one's own feelings and tendencies. He explores the topic of race with humor and profundity, asserting that his music cannot be understood by white people, but also claiming to be both black and white, criticizing the very racial distinctions he operates under. While some of his lyrics are openly misogynistic, ODB's frustration is ultimately not with women but with his reactions to them and paranoia surrounding their intentions (seen most clearly in the standout track "I Want Pussy," where he derides females for being after his money and the power they possess over him and seeks to invert that situation and control them with non-monetary means).
