Tracks such as "schrapnell," "mädchen mit hase," "my hi-matic" and "enrico" avoid many of the production conventions that define its period, allowing the record to retain a freshness that continues to resonate with listeners and music producers alike. We Are Monster proved to be significant in more ways than one. Alongside its musical legacy, the album introduced the first record sleeve by Stefan Marx, whose artwork would become a familiar presence across countless releases on influential labels like Smallville or Mule Musiq, but also fashion labels like Comme des Garçons and many art galleries in the years that followed.
