What power, what force! From the intro to the opener "American Wheeze" -- dominated by David Eugene Edwards' accordion -- it takes less than two minutes for the band to let all hell break loose. In 1998, 16 Horsepower was a machine that steamrolled everything in its path -- not brutally, but always with immense power. Yet they always remained delicate, mastering the quiet moments (just listen to "Bad Moon Risin") with the same confidence as their full-throttle tracks. In addition to the CCR cover, the album features the Gun Club's "Fire Spirit" as well as a brilliant version of Joy Division's "Day of the Lords." Anyone who has ever seen the band live knows the magic of such moments.
