Diefadima Kanté's debut album captures the voice of an artist who has spent her entire life singing at baptisms, weddings, and community ceremonies in rural Guinea. Accompanied by three guitars and a balafon, she delivers songs shaped by a lifetime devoted to celebrating the values, traditions, and wisdom of Guinea-Conakry. Recorded in Mali, the album radiates remarkable energy, strength, and emotion, as Diefadima Kanté shares stories and teachings drawn from a life of experience. The record also features a touching duet with her daughter, Hadja Kouyaté. Heartfelt and vibrant, it is a must for lovers of rural African blues.
"With her weathered timbre and mature voice, Diefadima Kanté sings an art deeply rooted in the earth..." - Libération, Bouziane Daoudi. "Accompanied simply by three guitarists and a balafon, Diefadima Kanté sings slices of life with a calm and reassuring voice." - World, Squaaly. "Diefadima Kanté introduces us to the intimate atmospheres of Manding societies in West Africa." - Amina, Luigi Elongui.
