Freddie Hubbard came flying out of the gates in the early 1960s, and Hub Cap captures that first great burst of hard bop energy. It is an early set that shows both his explosive trumpet playing and his sharp compositional voice.
The sextet here is stacked, with Julian Priester, Jimmy Heath, Cedar Walton, Larry Ridley, and Philly Joe Jones helping bring these sessions vividly to life.
This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and housed in a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket.
