The Frank Wess Quartet captures Frank Wess in fine form, moving between flute and tenor saxophone with the easy swing and clarity that made his playing so distinctive. Recorded in 1960 and released on the Moodsville label, it is a beautifully understated jazz session.
The quartet is completed by Tommy Flanagan on piano, Eddie Jones on bass, and Bobby Donaldson on drums. Together, they keep things relaxed, elegant, and deeply musical, with the kind of conversational interplay that makes small-group jazz so rewarding.
